Christ Church United Methodist

A Reconciling Congregation

 WELCOME

 THIS WEEK

 AT CHRIST CHURCH

Christ Church is a United Methodist congregation in central Denver. Our faith community takes seriously both the heart and the mind as we nurture the spirit of God. You will find a community striving to be real: combining intellectual questions along with heart-felt experiences to seek wholeness in living. We believe you will be welcomed, loved, and embraced in authentic and vulnerable ways. We believe there is a unique place to find hope in the midst of a dark, chaotic, and challenging world -  at the corner of 7th and Colorado.

Our hope is that you will find here a Christian community of integrity that will challenge you and encourage you in your spiritual journey. We invite you to be part of the community we call church.

Chancel Choir - New Singers Welcome!

The Chancel Choir is taking a break for the summer. If you love to sing we'd love to have you in the choir in the fall! If you have questions, please contact Kyle Bradley at kyleb76@gmail.com.

Sanctuary is more than providing a roof

What do you think about when you think about churches providing sanctuary? "People in need, need more than a roof," Richard Myers said at last month's Administrative Council meeting. Christ Church is beginning an exploration into what it means to be a sanctuary congregation. Hosting individuals under our roof is one option, but not the only option. We can provide space for English language acquisition classes, provide "know your rights" classes, make meals, do laundry, run errands and other support for other churches that are housing those needing sanctuary. We ask you to be open to the conversation, ask questions, allow yourself to listen, hear, and learn about the Sanctuary movement in the United Methodist Church.

Pastor's Conversation Class

Pastor's Class will meet at 9:00am this Sunday in the Naylor Study to discuss homophobia in the New Testament.

Multi-generational Service and Education Trip

This weekend will be a wonderful time filled with service projects and activities throughout the Denver area. If you have registered, please watch your inbox for an important email with extra details and more information. If you have questions or if you believe you registered but have not received an email please contact Rev. Megan, MArmstrong@christchurchcolorado.org. If you are not participating, please hold our group in your prayers throughout the weekend. There are 23 people signed up for different aspects of the weekend including children, young adults, and older adults.

Church Meeting and Vote

The Endowment Committee invites you to join us after the service on Sunday, June 25th in the Fellowship Hall. We'll have a brief (but informative) presentation of a change we'd like to make in the Endowment Charter followed by a vote of all members present. This is to change the allocation of new, undesignated funds from the current 75% Endowment Fund / 25% Church Council Fund ratio to a 50% Endowment Fund / 50% Building Fund ratio. This will help us in meeting some of the immediate and future needs of keeping this great church building at 7th and Colorado standing for the years ahead. We'd love to see you then! If you have any questions, please contact Chair of Finance, Richard Myers, richardlmyersjr@gmail.com or any of the members of the Permanent Endowment Committee with questions. Amanda Trembly  ajgully@hotmail.com; Larry Bourgeois larrybgr8@comcast.net; Charky Tucker genetucker1@comcast.net; Andy Blackmun ablackmun@yahoo.com.

AmazonSmile - another way to give

There are many avenues Christ Church uses to fund the ministry at 7th and Colorado Blvd. Pledged giving from the Sunday collection, direct deposit, electronic giving on your phone, and rent from tenants. We also offer a way for you to give back called AmazonSmile. When you purchase something on Amazon through AmazonSmile, 0.5% of the proceeds are given to the charity of your choice. Simply set Christ Church as your designated charity under AmazonSmile preferences. Thank you for helping to contribute to our ministry in this way.

UMW Summer Brunch

Save the date for the Annual UMW Summer Brunch! Saturday, July 15th at 10am at Windsor Gardens outdoor pavillion. Kenita Gibbins will share a presentation on travelling. Questions? contact Rebecca at becca3181@comcast.net.

Potluck and Conversation: Evangelism is not a Bad Word

Join us 5-7pm this Friday, June 23rd in the Fellowship Hall as we welcome Rev. Dr. Cathie Kelsey. She is the Dean of the Chapel at Iliff School of Theology. She will be leading a dialogue and discussion about Evangelism which will help us in some of our framework as we move into a new Discipleship Model beginning in the Fall. Please bring a dish to share and let Rev. Megan know if you have any questions. All are welcome!
