Christ Church United Methodist

A Reconciling Congregation

 WELCOME

 THIS WEEK

 AT CHRIST CHURCH

Christ Church is a United Methodist congregation in central Denver. Our faith community takes seriously both the heart and the mind as we nurture the spirit of God. You will find a community striving to be real: combining intellectual questions along with heart-felt experiences to seek wholeness in living. We believe you will be welcomed, loved, and embraced in authentic and vulnerable ways. We believe there is a unique place to find hope in the midst of a dark, chaotic, and challenging world -  at the corner of 7th and Colorado.

Our hope is that you will find here a Christian community of integrity that will challenge you and encourage you in your spiritual journey. We invite you to be part of the community we call church.

Labyrinth Open

The labyrinth is a symbol of our lives, especially the journey of Lent. We walk into the center of the labyrinth and pause to reflect on our personal struggles, wildernesses, or challenges in an effort to find resolution or another path to walk in life. We then walk back into the world connected to God and finding a new way of being. The labyrinth will be in the Fellowship Hall all of Lent, beginning Thursday, March 2nd and you are welcome to walk it on Sundays or during the week when other groups are not using the space. Please call the church office to verify the labyrinth is open, 303-322-0784.

Special Offering This Sunday

This Sunday is UMCOR Sunday, formerly known as One Great Hour of Sharing. This offering is taken once a year and goes to cover the operating expenses of the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) so 100% of donations given the remainder of the year are used in disaster relief. Special offering envelopes will be available if you'd like to give an additional gift. More information can be found at www.umcgiving.org/UMCOR.

Koins for Kids Offering

This Sunday our Koins for Kids Offering will go to Pura Vida to help Ingrid, our sponsored student in Guatemala.

Last Call for Yard Signs

We sold out of our "We're glad you're our neighbor" yard signs, again. But we have had requests for more and are trying to determine if there is enough interest to warrant ordering 50 more. The price will be $12 each to cover our costs. Please email Rebecca in the church office if you would like to place your pre-order, office@christchurchcolorado.org.

Lent

As we journey through Lent we focus on being Grounded for the Long Road and our prayer is you are able to find or affirm the spiritual practice that grounds you in the midst of the turmoil and challenges of life.

Sermon this week: Grounded in Prayer. Austin Piper will focus on the prayer of Jesus for us.

United Methodist Women Spiritual Life Retreat donations needed

The Spiritual Life Retreat of the Rocky Mountain Conference United Methodist Women is at the YMCA in Estes Park April 21-23.For more information, please contact Diane Lewis (dylewis851@aol.com). The young women retreat, held at the same time but separately from the older women, will be assembling kits for Days for Girls. These kits provide feminine hygiene items for girls in third world countries who would be unable to attend school every month without them. For more information about Days for Girls, please visit their very informative website at DaysforGirls.org.

For the retreat we are collecting girls underwear (size 10-14, no white, cotton, no characters or faces), wash cloths (store bought, not homemade, terry cloth), and finished drawstring bags as specified on the website. If you can't sew, but want to help you can either provide the underwear and washcloths, or money we will use to purchase fabric to sew the items for the kits. Items can be donated in the box in the Giving Center in the Narthex until Easter Sunday, April 16. Money can be given to Rebecca Bourgeois or Marlene Koehler.

Altar Flowers

There are lots of open weeks to sponsor altar flowers in 2017. The flowers come from Trader Joe's and we ask for $35 and you can take them home following worship. Take a moment to add your name to the chart in the Fellowship Hall.
