Christ Church United Methodist
A Reconciling Congregation
We have a commitment to all work that honors God’s children and builds a more just world. Each year we focus on specific matters based on the discernment of our committee, but we are always open to new ideas and new calls for justice. Below please find a few of our areas of attentionthis year:
Christ Church is a Reconciling Church, and one that participates in Altars for All – meaning we are open for weddings for all couples, including same-sex couples. We are proud to stand with our LGBTQ siblings to work for full justice and inclusion in both the UMC and our world. We partner with a variety of organizations including Reconciling Ministries Network, One Colorado, and Rainbow Alley (the center for LGBTQ youth at The LGBTQ Center of Colorado). We participate in the annual Denver Pride Parade and offer open, affirming worship experiences to LGBTQ members and visitors.
We have a strong partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for low-income families in the Denver area. Christ Church provides support for Habitat each year through home sponsorships and several construction workdays throughout the year.Racial Justice: We believe, as our United Methodist Book of Discipline states, that racism is both personal and institutional. We mourn the current manifestations of racism in our church and our world and are committed to study, conversation, and action to ensure all have an equal access and opportunities in The UMC and in our communities.
We are aware of the lack of access to healthy, sustainable food in our world and support organizations like DenUM, CROP Hunger Walk, and Heifer International with food donations and financial support to work for justice for all.
We are a proud partner of The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, and consistently look for ways to build relationships across difference, knowing there is much more that unites us as religious people than divides us.
The Social Justice Committee at Christ Church United Methodist lives into the Mission of our church with an acknowledgment of part of our church’s mission statement that notes “We strive to meet the world around us with compassion and love.” We believe that love is not a passive emotion, but requires action on behalf of all our neighbors.
